I Can Cope

I Can Cope is an educational program for people facing cancer—either personally, or as a friend or family caregiver. Living with cancer can be one of the greatest challenges a person can face in the course of a lifetime. I Can Cope offers help so that you can meet this challenge.

Knowledge is power, and the more you know about what is happening during cancer diagnosis and treatment, the better equipped you will be to handle each step of the journey.

I Can Cope classes help dispel cancer myths by presenting straightforward facts and answers to your cancer-related questions about:

  • Diagnosis and treatment
  • Side effects of treatment
  • Emotions and self-esteem
  • Cancer and intimacy
  • Communication skills
  • Community resources
  • Financial concerns
  • Pain management
  • Nutrition
  • Fatigue

Community Classes

I Can Cope classes are available in some communities across the country. There is no charge for attending I Can Cope classes. You do not need a physician’s referral, but for planning purposes pre-registration may be required. For more information about I Can Cope classes in your area, contact your local American Cancer Society office, call 1-800-ACS-2345, or go to In My Community.

Online Classes

I Can Cope classes are also available online. I Can Cope online allows you to take these classes in the privacy of your home or location of your choice at a time that is convenient for you. To take an online class, go to I Can Cope Online.

Facilitators

To become an I Can Cope facilitator, interested healthcare professionals must successfully complete required American Cancer Society training and periodic updates. Call us toll-free at 1-800-ACS-2345 for more information about becoming an I Can Cope facilitator.
